Inspired by: Friendship, Risk, Adventure, California A friend and I moved to California (from Wisconsin) after college. I had never been to California. I did not know anyone in California. When I arrived on the west coast, I arrived as a braver and more adventurous version of myself. As my capacity expanded and my confidence grew, I was compelled to throw myself into another foreign scenario. I moved away, and my friend stayed to get married and begin a new life of his own. I wrote this song as a letter to him. We were bound by our having shed the comforts of the midwest - even as the physical distance between us varies.
