This shot was taken on the shore of Lower Saranac Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, where my WHOLE family recently spent a week.

The silhouette on the right is my older sister who recently got separated from her husband. It was a shock to the whole family and, understandably, hard on her two kids. There wasn't much discussion about it on the trip.

The figure on the left is our Uncle David. 'Unconventional' doesn't begin to describe Uncle Dave, but it's the best I can do without consulting a thesaurus. When I think about which members of my family I would go to when I need to share personal thoughts or am seeking advice, Uncle Dave doesn't necessarily make the list.

But why not?

Despite his convention-defying, pot-growing, boat building, wilderness-dwelling ways, he's a good guy with a ton of wisdom to share.

I don't know what he and my sister were talking about. It could have had nothing to do with her relationship woes. But whatever they discussed or didn't discuss, I'm sure that my sister was reminded that even the craziest of our family members have something to share.
This inspires me, because I find it:
